Trauma Sensitive Offerings

"Trauma victims cannot recover until they become familiar with and befriend the sensations in their bodies. Being frightened means that you live in a body that is always on guard. Angry people live in angry bodies. The bodies of child-abuse victims are tense and defensive until they find a way to relax and feel safe. In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past." Bessel van der Kolk

Trauma lives in our bodies, not just as a story in our minds, but also as thwarted survival energy stored in our cells. Trauma sensitive yoga (TSY) has been found to be an effective adjunctive therapy for PTSD and Complex Trauma, helping people to befriend their bodies and experiences. TSY offers opportunities to increase interoceptive awareness - the ability to sense and make sense of bodily sensations - and make empowered choices in relation to that awareness.

There is also emerging research on the efficacy for trauma sensitive meditation and it's positive effects for traumatised individuals.
By learning to befriend our inner experiences, we can find deeper levels of healing and integration.

All of my offerings are trauma informed, with supporting you on your healing journey held as my highest priority.

Yoga and Meditation to soothe, heal and discover.

I teach yoga and meditation as ways to reconnect with your body and your inner wisdom. Through gentle movement, lightly placing attention on your breath and tender meditation, you will find more ease, connection and pleasure in your body, mind and spirit.

We store stress, anxiety and trauma in our bodies. Yoga and meditation can be a compliment to more traditional therapies, a place where we find safety and healing.

I work with a variety of clients, from those who are living with the effects of trauma, eating disorders, depression and anxiety, to those who are seeking time and space to tend to themselves.

"Tabatha has a deep understanding of how to adapt meditation to the needs of people with a family, job, lover and to-do list. From her heart she teachers "householders" to thrive in meditation so that they may more fully embrace their lives."
Lorin Roche PhD, author of "The Radiance Sutras"
